Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent example of 1930s-1940s Period dark gray leather overcoat, or greatcoat, as used by the officers in the German Wehrmacht, including the Kriegsmarine Navy, Heer Army, and Luftwaffe Air Force. With the dark blue gray color, it would not be preferred by members of the SS, who in general only used all black leather.
The greatcoat has a heavy grade leather exterior with a green felt like internal lining, manufactured with excellent quality and offered in very good condition. The exterior features two waist pockets with flaps, lined with blue gray corduroy. There are slash pockets on the inner chest on both sides, with leather openings. The style of manufacture is consistent with a genuine German mid-war era production of a private purchase uniform piece. Waist belt is the main means of securing the coat closed, and is secured with two large leather covered steel buckles with loops on the inner side, which attach to clips on the left side of the belt.
The manufacturer's tag is sewn into the inside collar of the greatcoat and reads as follows:
BERNHARD Blohm
HERRENMODEN
KIEL, Holstenstraße
With a manufacturer in Kiel, we assume this was probably made for Kriegsmarine officers, but this style could be used by most of the branches. There are some markings stamped on the inner pockets, but they just look to be size or reference numbers.
Original braided leather buttons on the ends of the sleeves are both intact. Offered in very good condition with some wear to the edges on the front. This is an exceptional wartime coat that is an iconic piece synonymous with the German Officer of WWII. Ready to research and display!
